About the Author
Tim Burford spent five years in publishing before turning to guidebook writing in 1991, coupled with summers leading hikers in the Alps. Working in Latin America since the mid-1990s and in Chile since 1997, he was well positioned to write the first and still the only English-language guidebook dedicated to Uruguay alone, and even more so to produce this second edition.

I would highly recommend this guide book

We traveled around Uruaguay in a rental car and found the guide book very helpful. Lodging choices were accurate, history and background information made experience more interesting. Road maps of different sections made driving much easier. I would highly recommend this guide book.

Best Book on Uruguay!

Superb update! I bought the first edition a couple years ago and so when this one came I compared them. This particular edition has a lot of new and very helpful information. Better descriptions, better options, better listings, better photos are all a part of this new edition. Look out Uruguay -- here we come to see if all the good things they said are true! Burford does a better job in this one sounding much more like someone who is speaking from a point of view of actually enjoying the country.

THE guide to Uruguay travel

This book was my bible when planning my trip to Uruguay - and when I was there as well! This seems to be the only entire English-language guidebook to the country so I used this in conjunction with a lot of Google searching for articles and Tripadvisor/Yelp for reviews. I found the background material on the history and culture to be very helpful. Most of the information was accurate (open times for museums, etc.) but always check online just to be safe.
It seems geared toward backpackers and people traveling by bus, but when our GPS broke I managed to navigate just fine using the tiny regional maps in the book. The city/town maps were all very accurate as well.
